Weatherproof cushions - liner fabrics and all-weather foam cushions
In most of our upholstered furniture, we use olefin fabric, a fabric with many advantages. For example, it holds its colour well and doesn't fade as quickly in the sun as other fabrics. It is very durable and lightweight at the same time. It also lets very little water through - and dries quickly. This makes it ideal for outdoor furniture.
Sometimes it's justified to have even better protection against rain and moisture, for example for larger upholstered furniture. That's why we've added extra reinforcements to several of our furniture ranges, so that the cushions can stay outside when it rains.
Fabric with a water-repellent liner (also known as TPU): When we talk about water-repellent fabric, we're talking about keeping water out as much as possible. This means that the inside does not get wet. The olefin fabric used in many of our furniture has good water-repellent properties in itself, but in some cases additional reinforcement may be appropriate. We then use a so-called liner on the inside of the fabric to further keep the water away. The liner we use is transparent and flexible, so you won't feel any difference on the outside compared to a fabric without a liner.
NOTE!Our furniture with TPU liner (water-repellent) should not be washed as described above. If cleaning is required, use an approved stain remover or damp cloth. It is not possible to soak or machine wash fabrics with TPU treatment.
Cushions with all-weather foam (also called QDF): When we say cushions with all-weather foam, we mean cushions that can withstand a rain shower and then dry. In other words, it's a cushion that lets water through and has some kind of opening that allows the inside to ventilate and dry when the sun comes out again. Remember that the cushions will dry faster if you stand them up so that any water runs off more easily.
