Bamboo

Bamboo is a natural material that requires care to maintain its rich and beautiful surface for many years. Bamboo has a very hard surface but can become porous if it dries out.

Our bamboo is factory-treated with fungicide and oil, which protects the material from deterioration. Over time, bamboo will fade due to sunlight and weather, but regular maintenance, oil treatment, and cleaning will extend its lifespan. We recommend treating bamboo with an oil suitable for outdoor furniture. Follow the instructions on the oil product when applying and use the oil sparingly—more is not always better.

Treat the furniture with oil before first use and then 3–4 times per year. To prevent bamboo from deteriorating, avoid using a protective cover on the table. It is important that the natural material can breathe, as condensation under a cover can cause mold and fungi. Bamboo is a natural material that needs ventilation to avoid damage.

Like all natural materials exposed to outdoor conditions, there is a risk of fungal and spore attacks from the environment. This may appear as black or brown spots on the bamboo and should be removed as soon as possible.

Deep-cleaning and repairing a damaged surface

  1. Wet the bamboo surface and scrub with a stiff brush to clean deeply and remove dirt and fungi. If necessary, a small amount of soap can be used.
  2. Once the bamboo is dry, use a sander to sand the surface, just as you would with solid wood. Start with medium-grit sandpaper and then switch to finer sandpaper for a smooth finish. Always sand in the direction of the wood grain.
  3. After cleaning and sanding, it is important to immediately seal the bamboo surface with oil again. Follow the product instructions and avoid applying too much oil.
  4. Let the oil dry and enjoy your bamboo product.
